Welcome!

Following one of the wettest summers on record, we were rewarded with stunning displays of autumn colours in the wooded hills around Kilburn, providing a welcome tonic as we enter the winter months. My Great Grandfather, Robert Thompson, had a true appreciation for the natural beauty of our native trees, especially the English oak. His talent was to reflect this in the furniture he designed, particularly through the surface adzing technique, which he perfected and which is still carried out by the craftsmen here in the workshop in Kilburn village.

In this issue, we highlight three very different Mouseman installations: a high tech commercial office in the City of London; an Arts and Crafts domestic interior and an award winning pub. I believe this variety demonstrates Robert Thompson’s principle that well designed, beautifully crafted furniture is at home in any environment, it will never date and in fact will improve as the patina of age develops. Anyone considering a piece of Mouseman as a gift for a loved-one, will be heartened to know that this will be one present that will last and look good for years to come.
